Sunday night, and things have calmed down considerably. Gabe, Sam, and Carlynn all tested positive for strep throat (as did my mom) and are on antibiotics. Carlynn is the only one of us with symptoms (I'm negative so far).
It's actually a good thing that Carlynn got sick when she did, or else we may not have been able to treat Sam in time for his surgery on Wednesday. People come to Gillette from all over the world for this procedure, so rescheduling can be difficult. Strep would have definitely been a dealbreaker.
Last night, we finally made the big plunge and bought a Wii and Wii Fit. Sam's wonderful physical therapist Rachel mentioned that it's a great thing for kids recovering from SDR (or anyone who is doing physical therapy). Sam loved the balance games, and Gabe has a newly-discovered interest in baseball. It's wonderful that Sam has all these tools and options available to him.
When we weren't playing Wii, we were all just hanging out, playing games, watching TV...etc...made homemade pizza for dinner. Not exactly what we had planned for the weekend before the surgery, but the strep sort of gave us an excuse to hang out at home and be together.

Rob and Carlynn, this is a wonderful idea and a great way to keep the many, many people who care so deeply for your family to be kept up to date on Sam's progress.
Love,
Mom
Glad you're all feeling better! Let me know if there's anything I can help with in the coming months.
Wow, the surgery sounds really complicated! I hope everything goes well. love, Rob's cousin Emily
