Sam had a restful evening, barely waking up when the nurses came in every couple of hours to turn him on his side or back. A funny thing happened this a.m. I got up about 6:45 a.m. and went to take a quick shower before Sam woke up. The nurses agreed to keep an eye on him during this time. I was gone for about 10 minutes, and when I came back, Sam was.....playing video games! The nurse, Tim, said that Sam woke up shortly after I left and asked to play the Wii, so he brought the portable station in here for him. I don't know how Sam's going to adjust to home life again after this kind of special treatment!
He had another big breakfast of French toast, sausage and milk (Mom ate the oatmeal :)
In a few minutes we're going to head down to the casting room on the fourth floor, where Sam is going to pick out the color for his casts, then it'll take about an hour to put the casts on. The nurse gave him a bolus, or bump of pain medicine, then she'll give him some sedating medicine right before casting begins.
Once back in the room and things settle down a bit, they'll take out the epidural.

Hello and best wishes for Sam for the weeks in casts!
My son broke his right leg a few days ago and must wear a huge cast from his hip to his toes for six weeks.
He pick out blue for his cast.
Which color pick out Sam for his casts, blue too?
Perhaps you can post a photo of Sam with his casts.
Hi Guys -
I hope Sam's casting went well today. I was thinking of all of you while I was at today's staff development day at work (meetings, meetings, meetings from 8:15-4:30). I hope Sam had some fun colors to choose from for his casts - neon blue? Hot pink? Lady Gaga Purple? Pokemon Yellow? Mostly, I hope he's resting peacefully and "digesting" easily. He's such a sweetie guy. I also hope Mom and Dad have been able to catch up on a little sleep. Sam's lucky to have such wonderful family members and friends to visit with him, play video games with him, and tell him knock-knock jokes. When I meet him, I'm going to bring him a huge bottle of orange pop!
Wishing everyone a peaceful night,
Alison
