Sunday, May 1 Update

Sam had a full week of visitors this past week: Grandma Marsha spent the afternoon on Monday, allowing Rob to go into work to wrap up some projects before his 3 week time at home with Sam. Grandpa Don brought lunch and some cool car puzzles over on Thursday before Rob took Sam to the library (his first outing in the wheelchair!). Brooke came over on Thursday night for the first time since her own surgery - her nose is healing well. Then, on Friday, Pastor Lynn came over with a bag of goodies for everyone and played a light-hearted game of Uno. We're hoping she can convince David and Sarah to come over for the next round of Uno! Also, thanks to Pastor Lynn, we all enjoyed an Applebee's "to-go" meal Friday night!

Saturday Janette, Josh and Judy came over to hang out with Sam, who was up in his wheelchair in the livingroom for most of the afternoon (a nice change from hanging out in bed most of the time!). Gabe got a chance to show off his new iPad2, which was distributed to all students at his school as part of their math, science and technology magnet school grant.

Sam is now sleeping through the night (mostly) after trying crushed pain pills in chocolate pudding (sprinkled with mini M&Ms). I'm so glad the pharmacy is working with us to try and find the best solution for Sam. It is the worst feeling in the world to see your child in pain and be helpless to do anything for them.

Sam is still getting plenty of TV and video game time, although I think he may be getting saturated! On Thursday morning, I was getting ready for work, and I heard Rob encouraging Sam to do some of his exercises while on his tummy, saying, "You can play your DS while on your tummy", to which Sam replied, "I don't wanna play my DS!". I knew then that we were in trouble. Sam quickly got over that feeling, unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it. :)

Rob is helping Sam keep up with his math worksheets, and we're both taking turns reading some of the Lord of the Rings to him, and the visits from family and friends really help keep his spirits up. Hopefully, Sam will have a teacher from his school start coming out to the house this next week and help him get caught up on his work. Even in two weeks, it's amazing at how much he has missed so far!
