More Walking

Sam's been walking just about every day now -- we're so proud of how hard he's worked!

It's really interesting to see the dramatic way that his gait has changed. Prior to the SDR surgery, the tightness in Sam's thighs made him walk in sort of tip-toe/pidgeon-toe kind of gait. He didn't really bend his knees all that much, and most of his mobility came from moving his legs at the hips.

Now when he walks, he bends his knee, lifts his leg and plants his heel - just like everyone else walks. He's still a little shaky, but considering that he's using muscles he never used before, I think he's doing great.

We're getting ready to go to the pool now - which is his favorite activity here at the hospital.
